Making Global Goals

Local Business

Action Platforms

Beginning in 2017 we are offering a new portfolio of Action Platforms to advance business activities and outcomes in relation to the Ten Principles and the SDGs. Developed in consultation with LEAD companies, Local Networks, UN agencies and relevant partners, Action Platforms fill emerging gaps in advancing the SDGs. They are tailored for up to 40 companies and require a fee.

The Blueprint for SDG Leadership

The Blueprint will outline baseline responsibilities and business leadership practices across the 17 SDGs, and seek to consolidate existing standards and leadership principles. It will provide an aspirational framework against which companies can benchmark their strategies, goals, targets and impacts toward the SDGs. To be developed with LEAD participants, UN partners, issue experts, civil society stakeholders and Local Networks.

SDG Leadership through Reporting

Together with GRI, we will work to promote comprehensive disclosure on the SDGs as an integrated part of existing corporate reporting frameworks, including the development of consolidated business disclosures and indicators on the SDGs that are also relevant to decision-making by investors and more accessible to SMEs.

Breakthrough Innovation for the SDGs

Project Breakthough – in partnership with Volans, PA Consulting, The DO School and Singularity University – connects companies with some of the world’s leading exponential thinkers and innovators, in order to understand disruptive technology clusters like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Blockchain and the potential for more sustainable, collaborative and circular business models for the future.

Financial Innovation for the SDGs

In collaboration with UNEP FI and PRI, this platform will identify innovative financial instruments that have the potential to direct private finance towards critical sustainability solutions. The Platform will develop guidance on impact investment strategies that support sustainable development, map current and emerging financial instruments, and provide a laboratory for the development of innovative instruments.

Pathways to Low-Carbon & Resilient Development

Building on a decade’s work by Caring for Climate, the platform is aimed at driving business leadership to implement the Paris Agreement and related SDGs at the country-level. We will provide a multi-stakeholder space to catalyze the business contribution to national climate and SDG plans in 7-10 countries, and offer analysis of the gaps, synergies, trade-offs between NDCs and SDG plans – for business and policymakers alike.
