On Thursday 8th of March the UN-GCNE along with the IFC, UN Women and the EGX held the 4th Annual “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” to celebrate International Women’s Day. In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March 2018, over 50 stock exchanges around the world will join the United Nations Global Compact, Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative, UN Women, the International Finance Corporation, World Federation of Exchanges, and Women in ETFs in raising awareness about the importance of gender equality to both business and sustainable development. The aim is to have exchanges across the globe ring their market opening or closing bell to draw attention to the critical role business and markets can and must play in closing the gender inequality gap.
This event raised awareness of the importance of private sector action to advance gender equality as well as avail the opportunity for business leaders, investors, government, civil society and other key partners at the country-level to highlight the growing business and economic case for gender equality. This event also showcased how the private sector is already taking concrete steps to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
