The Global Compact Network Egypt hosted its annual Ramadan Iftar Event on Business for Peace, on June 4th 2018 at the Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah Hotel. Held under the theme of Egyptian Businesses acting for Peace, this edition shed light on the role of the private sector in advancing and maintaining peace within Egypt’s numerous communities.

The event served as a platform to promote the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Business for Peace Platform, which looks at how businesses are key players in upholding peace and bettering the lives of their surrounding communities and within their country.

Building on the success of last year’s Ramadan Iftar event, this year’s edition brought together senior officials and High Level Executives from the private sector, public sector, Government, NGOs and civil society, with the goal to raise awareness of the social issues the private sector can commit to, such as migration, gender equality, refugees, employment and more.

The 2018 annual Business for Peace Iftar Event was held in partnership with the UN agencies operating in Egypt, such as United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), as well as the support of Alex Bank. The event that saw the participation of more than 150 attendees, featured keynote sessions of prominent speakers, including Directors, Representatives and Head of Programmes from the UN partners.
